JOB SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Pharmacy Manager/Coordinator, performs the following functions: Pulls medication from storage and counts, pours, measures or packages proper amounts for each drug prescription/order, restocks automated dispensing machines ; delivers IV admixtures to hospital units; assists with extemporaneous compounding as needed: fills routine and special internal requisitions; performs filing and clerical duties.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Strong background in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics (normally attained through coursework beyond high school) sufficient to understand pharmaceutical terminology. Ability to perform algebraic calculations necessary for the preparation of extemporaneous compounds. Demonstrated ability to operate CRT computer terminal necessary to review medication orders and produce labels. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be detail oriented, have the ability to make precise measurements, and perform tasks independently. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and courteous relationships with patients, co-workers and other CCF Personnel. Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
Minimum six months related experience or successful completion of Pharmacy Technician Program may substitute for the required work experience.
Typical physical demands include ability to perform the job while standing, reaching, stretching and sitting for prolonged periods; manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer, dispensing, and compounding; ability to lift up to 20 lbs. while walking, stooping, bending and reaching; ability to transport 240 lb.
